    issues with iis 7.0!

Hi guys, I'm developing under sharepoint server which runs under iis 7.0 and when it came for setting up the incoming and outgoing e-mail settings i ran through some strange issues: 1. For incoming emails, sharepoint picks them from the drop folder under emailroot using an OWSTIMER.EXE but only when iis 6.0 smtp virtual server is running, if i stop it the emails won't go through! Why my incoming emails depend on iis 6.0 while my sharepoint server runs under iis 7.0? 2. For outgoing emails, i need to use an smtp server to allow e-mail messages to be relayed from sharepoint server to hMailServer and i can't configure a smtp server in iis 7.0 only in iis 6.0 Please advise...

Because SMTP isn't related to the version of IIS and the SMTP programmers, in the Exchange programming group, didn't update SMTP to match the new IIS control panel.  SMTP is a separate service, it just used a control panel from IIS for management.  SMTP, and the original FTP, require the IIS 6 management control panel to configure.

Which also answers question 2.  There is only the one SMTP server to configure, and you don't that through the IIS 6 management console.  And it works fine as a mail forwarder.  But you can configure Sharepoint to use any mail server, you may want to look at removing SMTP from the server and just pointing Sharepoint at your current mail server.  That's a Sharepoint thing though, not IIS, so if you need help you'll want to post in a Sharepoint forum.
