    No external connectivity

Installed SBS2008 using ISS7.  Cannot connect to website from outside the network.  We can ping our site successfully but cannot connect via any brower.  Any suggestions on what could be wrong?

Does the site come up locally?

Make sure the firewall allows port 80 and your external firewall / router allows port 80, assuming your server is on a internal network.

All port 80 issues were checked and were OK.  All firewall issues are OK.   Are there any quirks in SBS 2008 that I need to worry about?  Can you point me to any checklists or programs to run that would map out a possible error?  Ran Fix My Network Wizard, but still cannot connect externally.

I can get to the site by using the external IP address but only from within the network.  If I use the same address outside the network I dont connect to the site.

    Re: No external connectivity

Well, I solved the problem.  My ISP does not allow the use of Port 80.  Can you imagine in this day and age blocking Port 80?  I even have Optimum's Business Service.  The business service allows for the use of Port 80, but it needs to be enabled.  Once I called them and the tech enabled Port 80, it was like magic.  So never ASS U ME, the simpliest explanation might be the answer.  It was in my case.

    Hi,

Its quite common for an ISP to block port 80 - its a best practice really, why leave a port open if it isn't actually required ?

You might want to confirm other common internet ports are open, 443, 21, 25, 110, 119 if you are planning on offering the server online.  443 is the only one needed for web traffic, the others is FTP, SMTP, POP3, IMAP.
