    IIS7 Not Serving Over LAN

We installed SharePoint Server 2007 (trial license) on a XenServer virtual machine that is running Windows Server 2008 (trial license).  All known updates have been applied.  The web server role was applied.  The server belongs to the domain and is visible to the network.  It responds to ping by its machine name, so it is resolving in the DNS.  We can browse out to the Internet from the server.

We can browse to SharePoint from a browser running locally on the server, but browsing to it from other workstations generates a 404 errror.  We created a test web site on the server and can also browse to it from the server but not from any other workstation.  Using the IP address instead of the URL also generates a 404.

How does IIS7 need to be configured to serve a Web site to the LAN?

    Thank you.

For SharePoint issues, please visit our SharePoint forums.

Remember that SharePoint is a complex application over IIS, so it's completely another story.

This problem exists for any Web site on this server, not just SharePoint.  SharePoint is just an example.

As far as I know, if you don't configure SharePoint right, such scenario may happen.

    Hi,

Could you post the relevant log file entries here? IIS log file located in the %systemdrive%/inetpub/logs/logfiles directory by default. The sub status code of the 404 error should indicates a more specific cause of this issue.

Also you  can run WFetch  to see the raw HTTP request and response data  which should helpful for us narrow down the root cause.

    Hi:

Thank your for responding.  This turned out to be a simple DNS issue.  The Windows Server 2008 installation used a DHCP issued IP address that was different than the static address we created in the DNS.  When we discovered the difference we created a static address for the server and were then able to browse to it from the LAN.
