    IIS Live smooth streaming

    Hello,

Is it possible to stream live video with this feature? All examples I saw talked about

movie files, but is it possible to get video (H264) directly from some source encoder (IP camera)

convert it to MP4 format and push it to publish point? without creating static recorder file?

    Thanks.

Yes, you can use Live Smooth Streaming with a live source.  The simulated encoding example we posted on IIS.net (i.e., get full how-to instructions, a sample client, and the Live Smooth Streaming Starter Kit at http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/620/live-smooth-streaming-for-iis-70---getting-started/) are meant to let you try out the technology in minutes, without needing to acquire any additional technology.

To do live encoding, you will need to have an encoder that supports this, such as recently announced products from Inlet (www.inlethd.com).  See the MIX conference session where this was demonstrated at http://videos.visitmix.com/MIX09/T56F

Additional encoding options will be available in the coming months.

    Hi Chris,

Thanks a lot for your answer.

I watched the mix conference, and it appears that I need to buy new hardware - inlethd encoder, to stream live video.

But is there some software solution?

My encoders are streaming H264 and MJpeg video on lan. Can I encode myself these streams to mp4 format are push it to IIS Live smooth publishing pont?

     Alina.

    Hi, Alina,

Whichever encoder you use will need to be able to create fragmented MP4 files and Smooth Streaming manifests.  If the Inlet hardware is not an option for you at this time, look for announcements from other encoding companies in the weeks and months ahead.  In the meantime, you might also contact your encoder manufacturer to let them know you would like them to add support for Live Smooth Streaming.

    Hi Chris,

Can I (my company) create a suitable encoder for our products?

Where can I find more info about mp4 format and manifest files for live smooth straming?

    Thanks,

    Alina

    You can start here

Also download a Smooth chunk and open it in something like this
