Website resolves using netbios name but not FQDN????

    Hi,

    I'm running Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 with IIS6

I'm running Microsoft SCCM 2007 SP1 on this server but I think this issue is specific to IIS so I thought I would be better off posting this here..

Basically I'm getting an 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' message when trying to access the default SSL website when the FQDN is specified (e.g. https://server.domain.local/mysite ) . However when the netbios hostname (e.g. https://server/mysite ) is used the website is brought up correctly (although a certificate warning comes up asking if I want to continue to this website).

Firstly I'm assuming the warning is coming up only because the website cert is issued to the FQDN name only?

Secondly how come the FQDN doesn't work and the netbios hostname does?????

I've already tested name resolution for this server and everything appears to be in order..  I'm assuming there's a setting somewhere in IIS I'm missing somewhere??

    Thanks in advance!

hi man,, was lookign all over the internet for my problem, which is almost exactly like your problem,,, if you don't mind to help me i'll really appreciate it

so i have two servers (of course other than my main server) one application server that holds the main website, and another database server that holds the data for generating reports, so the main website have to access the database server when the user wants to generate reports,,

now when i defined the link there ,,the exact same thign happened like yours,,, dbsrv.mydomain.com/mywebsite (didn't work)  BUT dbsrv/mywebsite (worked fine) but yet i still have a problem that iam not able to access it for some reason!!! though it works fine when iam in my LAN area

i dont have any proxy server, but when iam in the Office (LAN) if i set the Internet explroer to use the ISP's proxy,,,this kinda lets you try if it's working through the internet you know not just because you are in the same LAN,,, anyways ,,,still trying to see why the heck this thing isn't working ,,,considering that i've already disabled all my firewalls

    what did you do man??
