    I got this message: EXCEPTION: Microsoft.Web.Deployment.DeploymentException: The database 'wordpress217' could not be created. ---> MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlException: Unable to connect to any of the specified MySQL hosts. ---> System.Exception: Exception of type 'System.Exception' was thrown. when trying to install WP 2.1.7. I'm running XP SP3 and I only choose to install Wordpress from all the available options. My PC has IIS 5.1 installed and running properly for other projects.

    Hi Luis, It looks like MySQL has not been configured properly on your machine. (The database was not created since there were no speicified mysql hosts.).

    If you have already installed MySQL, then you can use "MySQL Server Instance Config Wizard" from start menu and configure your MySQL host.

    It would also help if you add the log file to the post, as it would give some more insights into the problem.
