Health Test - Live Traffic Test

Can I disable Live Traffic Test?  I realize I could just use bogus parameters but I'd rather just disable it if possible.  Thanks.

Also, I can't find much documentation on how Live Traffic Test works.  Could you explain a little bit about the feature here?  For example, what does the Failover Period parameter do?  I'm guessing that when [Maximum Failures] is achieved, the server is made unavailable for [Failover Period], right?  It might be more useful to have a feature where when [Maximum Failures] is achieved in last x number of minutes, then failover for failover period.

     Thanks!

You can set live traffic failure period to 0 to disable this.

Re: Health Test - Live Traffic Test

    Hi,

I'm having a problem with the Live Traffic Test. It triggers then prevents traffic from going to the server as you would expect. The problem I have is that when I go check the availability of the server that supposedly bad, it works just fine. I tried making the server unavailable/available, offline/online in ARR but ARR would not route traffic to the server until I removed it and re-added it to the farm configuration. Once that was done, ARR routed the traffic to the server properly.

What should I do when that happens? Is there configuration setting to have ARR automatically recover the server?

     Thank you,

     Mathieu

The live traffic test is designed only to detect when the server becomes unhealthy.  You can disable this feature as posted above (although I wouldn't recommend it necessarily - it depends on your environment.)

The URL test is designed to run periodically and also to detect when the server becomes healthy as well as unhealthy.  So you will want to use the live traffic test WITH the URL test.

    Thanks for the info!

From what I can see, the URL test only works with anonymous sites. In my case I need to make an authenticated request to site in order to do a proper test. Any chance this feature will be added to ARR?

    Thanks again!

We are too close to the next release milestone to accept any feature requests, but we can definitely put this into consideration.

That said, depending on what auth method you are using, you can change the acceptable return code to treat the auth challenge as a successful (ie. "acceptable") result.
