    Testing Website before going live.

Is is possible to test my website that I created in IIS by using http://servername/websitename before using DNS.  I know it is possible with Apache but it hasn't worked for me with IIS.  I am able to add the address of server to host file on the web server and then http://websitename will work.  I just have to remember to remove it from the host file when I do go live.

Paul, This was very helpful. Do you recommend going to the latest IIS. We are using IIS4 now with FrontPage extensions and I am concerned about the compatibility with the latest IIS6 or 7.

    Hi,

I wouldn't recommend IIS4 for any production system. NT4 is now completely out of support :

You should be looking at IIS6 at the very least for your production deployment or preferably IIS7. You can get FPSE 2002 for IIS7 here :

Paul, You are impressive. I have no idea what your background is but you, obviously, are very qualified. Thank you. Take care...
