    Windows Media

Windows Media formats are supported in many software and hardware-based players as well as Microsoft's own software-based Windows Media Player. The foundation container format for Windows Media is the Advanced Systems Format file, which holds audio, video, meta-data indexes and scripts. Windows Media audio and video files can be downloaded intact and played, or they can be streamed from a Web site when used in conjunction with Microsoft's Windows Media Services on a Web server.

    Hi, Roger,

That is a concise summary!  :-)  I'd make just two clarifications, both to your last sentence:  Windows Media audio and video files can be downloaded intact and played; progressively downloaded and played (playing starts even while the content is still downloading, typically from a Web server); or they can be streamed from Windows Media Services running on Windows Server (no Web site or Web server required).
