    shared config server

    hi all,

sorry if this has been asked and answered, but i searched and got no replies.

can the tool be used to deploy sites and settings to a shared config server, which in turn will replicate out to the 10 web servers?

    thks

I understand the current release doesn't let you do this as it doesn't make much sense to migrate an IIS6 server to a IIS7 server which is using shared config and also you don't need to sync two IIS7 servers which are using shared configuration. We realised that people do want this to work when they want to sync a site from dev/test machine to the production server which is using shared config. I understand this scenario will be enabled in the next release.

Faith, I am not sure but do you know if disabling the analyze check will be enough to enable this scenario?

    Thanks,
    Kanwal

    Hi,

Yes, disabling the dependency check would allow you to proceed but it hasn't been tested with the current Beta 1 that is available today. It is a scenario we are testing for upcoming milestones.

I'd recommend trying it on non-production servers and backing up config prior to syncing. There shouldn't be anything too bad, especially if you're just syncing a single site.

What are you looking at syncing? A site or full server?

    Thanks,

    Re: shared config server

    Hi Faith,

We create or deploy about 4-8 sites per month on our web cluster. we have 8 servers load balanced currently so manually creating each and every site on every server is a pain, so our migration to 2008 server cannot come soon enough!

I will give it a try and let you know how i get on.

    thanks
