Howto move server root outside Virtual PC (Vista x86)

I'm running IIS7 (Vista x86) virtual machine (Virtual PC 2007 SP1) on Vista x64. I want to set the server root on a physical disk outside the virtual machine but having problems. I have created a shared folder in the virtual machine which contains the server root "drive S:" on the host (virtual machine and host are same system). (UAC=off on both the virtual machine and the host) To set a site root folder in IIS Manager I can browse to the shared folder "Network Drive (S" which I can select but it just does not work. Network connections are disabled on the virtual machine but I do have installed Virtual machine additions. I also tried to create a virtual hard disk linked to a physical hard disk which failed and returned the following error: "Error - Virtual PC Linked Virtual Hard Disk cannot be attached to a virtual machine. This is a linked virtual hard disk, or a differencing virtual hard disk to a linked virtual hard disk. Linked virtual hard disks can not be attached to virtual machine." How to configure? Thanks in advance.
