    FTP7 PASV port control

Since I see no discussion of this issue anywhere on the web, am I the only one with this problem? I cannot set the dynamic port range for PASV data channel. The place in Firewall support where I should be able to set the range is greyed out. The help button for that screen displays nothing. The online help button just takes me to these forums with no specific context.

I have searched the registry to look at every entry related to FTP, there is nothing referencing dynamic port range.

I have read the 2 articles that keep getting passed out on these forums as the answer to all FTP problems. They do not address this issue.

I have active FTP working fine, but that is a non-starter - we must support PASV. I need to open a port range on the router to allow this traffic in and out of the building. I refuse to open all ports above 1023. I would think this makes me a typical admin, seeking only to do something that is easily avilable in every other FTP server program I've ever seen. It's a little amazing to me that this problem is mentioned all over the web but there are no solutions posted.

So, before I give up and install Filezilla server, can anyone tell me in what meta data, registry entry, config file, or wherever is the information stored so I can edit it directly, or what do I do to get the appropriate GUI field active for MS FTP7?

It sounds like you have selected your FTP site when trying to set your passive port range.  Try selecting your server, not your site, then going into FTP Firewall settings.  The passive port range should no longer be grayed out, and you can make changes.

Port range is a global setting that applies to the server. Also make sure to restart the service (ftpsvc) because this particular setting doesn't get updated through the config change notification process.

You will also likely need to read my blog on setting up the actual windows firewall (assuming, you have it running)
