Security considerations w/Front Page 2002 Server Extensions?

Good morning, all. New to the forum. I have been looking, but can't find much data, and need info quickly.

Would there be any deal-breaking security implications with installing FPSE 2002 on an INTRANET server?  Better yet, does anyone know of a usable page hit counter that would not require FSPE 2002 (which is about the only reason the user is requesting this)?

Thanks in advance for any help you may provide,

    Page hit counters?  They're so 90's!   : )

Why not just give the person a stats page with something free like awstats or SmarterStats?

Thanks for reply, tom.  I already offered that sort of thing, but I think they want visitors to see the numbers as they arrive (about the only reason I can think of why they would prefer one over the other).

There are some free java applet hit counters, but we are constrained as to the version of Java that we can run, due to other applications residing on that same server.

    Any other ideas? Anyone?

As Tom said, page counters are nothing more than a way to get false sense of how busy your page is.  If it's an internal application, your app won't be crawled by a search crawler.   Besides giving you a hard time, :)  I have no suggestions.  Google looks to have a few hits.

    Thanks, Steve.

Won't these 'free' counters quit working when the provider discovers that they can't 'talk' to our site because it's on a NATted, internal network?

I keep looking, but still haven't found anything useful. Hard to imagine that somebody hasn't written a script or .aspx page to accomplish this.

Again, to clear up any confusion, this site/set of folders is controlled by our HR department, and whatever they want is likely to be what winds up happening.  I'm just trying to make it the least painful for all around.

Yes - it would be pretty easy to write some aspx code for this.

Found one at http://www.scriptdungeon.com   It should satisfy what this user is after, and cause no anxiety attacks among the assembled management cadre.

Thank you both for your interest & energy.  See you further down the trail...
