Do "Ready to Run" FPSE actually work?

    Hello,

I've just built up a Windows Server 2008 installation and set up multiple Web sites on it.  Previously the sites were on a Windows Server 2003 running FPSE 2002.

I've installed Ready to Run Software's version of the FP server extensions.  However, when I try to administer them by going through Microsoft SharePoint Administrator, I get back a browser page displaying "503 - Service Not Available."

The product installation did complete, and even though I received a different error on installation, I found a solution to that error in their FAQ at http://www.rtr.com/fpse/faq1.htm#iis_config.

Anyone familiar with this product or the 503 error that I'm observing? Does the product actually work?

    Thank you,
    Brad

    Hello

To answer your question, Yes, the FrontPage Server Extensions do work on Windows Server 2008 with many satisfied users.  I hope that we will be able to help you become one soon.

One of the possibilites you may try to is to verfiy that Windows Authentication has been enabled.

    Hello,

I've already checked the authentication method on the Web site.  Windows Authentication is in fact enabled.

Re: Do "Ready to Run" FPSE actually work?

I have a few suggestions that may help.

As stated in the first section of our FAQ, http://www.rtr.com/fpse/faq1.htm#users, the FrontPage Server Extensions must be installed and executed using the native Administrator account on both Windows Server 2008 and Vista.  The domain administrator and local administrator accounts may not be used to install the FrontPage Server Extensions.

A simple workaround to that would be to uninstall FPSE, open a command prompt using the "Run as administrator" option, then install FPSE from the command-line using the msiexec /I <fpse MSI package> syntax.

Also, in the 64 bit environment, AppPool must be configured for 32-bit operation.

I hope that this helps you.

If you would like or need further assistance, we would be happy to open a support contract with you.  I refer you to our Technical Support page at http://www.rtr.com/fpse/technicalsupport.htm for additional information concerning types of support and support rates.

Thank you for your use of the FrontPage Server Extensions.
