New to IIS and web hosting, URL question

    Hello IIS Pros -

I have a new Win2003 server with what I assume is IIS6.  I have a business account with my ISP and a static IP, and my firewall router has port 80 open and routed to my server's trusted side IP.  DNS is not turned on internally on my network.  On my IIS server, I have a set of PHP files which I know work on a test server, and they work when accessed internally through a browser.  The path is c:\inetpub\wwwroot\myfolder\index.php.  When I try to access the site from outside with http://00.00.000.00/myfolder/index.php, my browser returns "The server at 00.00.000.00 is taking too long to respond." I'm not even reaching the IIS server, evidently.  What might the problem be?  Please let me know if I'm not being specific enough and I will try to respond with more detail.

Many thanks in advance for your valuable time and expertise -

    JamesB

Try a simple html hello world page

What does www.dnsstuff.com say about your site name.

Has your ISP allowed port 80 open?

Most overused word in IT is 'should' as in 'That should work!?!'

What happen if you browse to http://yourStaticIP/ ?  Can you also test this from outside your network?

Hi tomkmvp, and many thanks for your expertise - From inside, I get the management console for our firewall router. From outside, the connection times out. Hope this is helpful. Thanks again - James

It's clearly an issue with your router then.  Consult the documentation on the proper setup - perhaps you need to disable the remote administration feature?

     Hi again tomkmvp -

Resolved!  I talked to our sysadmin and he changed the settings on the router.  The right ports were mapped but there were other settings we needed to fix.  Thanks very much again for your help.
