IIS Manager - Unable to connect to other servers

I am using Vista. I installed IIS Manager.

All our servers are running IIS 7.

After I type in my Servername, then my credentials, it comes up with this error:

"Could not connecto the specified computer. Details: Unable to connect to the remote server"

I tried doing this from the server and I get the same result.

What could be happening here? I just need to type in the servername correct?

Is the server running the Web Management Service?

    Does it allow Remote Connections?

Is it listening on port 8172?

You can verify those settings using the Management Service feature using IIS Manager in those machines.

Web Management Service is not installed or running. How do I install it?

So i need to openup TCP port 8172 on each of my web servers?

    I have Server 2008 64bit

    Firewall inbound rules:

Remote Administration (NP-In) Allow for Public

Remote Administration (RPC) Allow for Public

Remote Administration (RPC-EPMAP) Allow for Public

    Remote Desktop(TCP-In) Allow for Domain

Remote Event Log Management (NP-In) allowed for Domain

Remote Event Log Management (RPC) allowed for Domain

Remote Service Management (NP-In) allowed for Domain

Remote Service Management (RPC) allowed for Domain

Remote Service Management (RPC-EPMAP) allowed for Domain

Just launch Server Manager and in the Web Server Role choose the Add/Remove Role services, in there look for Management Service, that should install it.The setup will add a Firewall rule for port 8172 automatically, so you shouldnt need to do anything else other than go to the Management Service page in IIS Manager and enable Remote Connections.

Re: IIS Manager - Unable to connect to other servers

Need help with this also, I have Vista Ultimate x64, IIS7 running on Win 2008 Server Standard.

I have One Care on my Vista, I can connect with the One Care off.  I have and exception in the Windows Fire Wall and Outbound Rules.

I tried to add %SystemRoot%\System32\inetsrv\InetMgr.exe in the advance fire wall setting in One Care, but it will not recognize the program nor list it in the add dialog box.

So how do I had this exception to One Care?  This doesn't make sense that One Care will not allow me to add this program.

Coding is like a box of chocolates!...
