    List of all URL's hosted

    Hello,

I have been asked to migrate all websites from a legacy NT 4 IIS server (IIS 1.0) to a 2003 Server box running IIS 7.  My question is:

How do I determine the URL of every single webpage that the server hosts?  The person who was responsible for this server is long gone so getting a complete list of valid URL's which are still active is proving a bit tricky.  Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Duncan.

First, Windows server 2003 does not have IIS 7 ,,,, It has IIS 6...

For determining the active URL's you might want to work with the IIS logs... They will tell which URL's are being worked upon....

First of thanks for the quick response.  I guess there's no easy way of determining the complete list of all hosted URL's, monitoring the logs may give me a list of all recently used pages, however the server is quite old and I'd like to have a list of all pages so that I can then go back and find out why they were created and if anyone in the company still uses them at all.  I'll start with the auditing, which I'm a little skeptical of because this is IIS 1.0, and take it from there.

Thanks for your help, and if there's anything else you could suggest I'd appreciate it.

    Cheers,

     Duncan.

Re: List of all URL's hosted

:) It isn't IIS 1.0 It is probably IIS 4.0 that was the popular version for NT4 in the option pack.

Do you want a list of all the pages that are not used?

The logs are the only way to do that. Ruin that with a GUI like log parser lizard http://forums.iis.net/t/1147180.aspx you should be able to get a better understanding more easily of what is not used as much.

Bill Staples would be proud to hear if 1.0 IIS was still in production.  That would be some record.  I'm believe NT 3.51 was 1.0.  Any who, logs I would think are w3c compliant and log parser would be the ticket.

Re: List of all URL's hosted

As you guys have deduced, it appears I was incorrect with the version of IIS that is currently running.  The box is running NT 4.0 6a, the version of the management console I was looking at is 1.0, and although I've looked in all the normal places I can't find the version of IIS.  My worry is that although the logs will tell me which pages are presently in use, I don't think I'll be able to get of all the pages that are being hosted.  Although this will probably means they don't need to be migrated since they're no longer in use, I'd still like to be able to show that I was aware they were there and also checked to ensure they were no longer in use since they will not be migrated to the new box.  I am going to start by reviewing the logs as you've suggested and take it from there.

     Thanks all!

If it is NT 4.0 then it would be running IIS 4.0 ... Anyways other than the IIS logs you could also check the websites themselves and see when were they last modified ... That will also give you an idea if anyone has been working on them ...

Just another approach ... Hope this helps...

Re: List of all URL's hosted

Depending on your website a good way to work out is still active/usable is too run a link analyser from the homepage. (try Xenu)

That way you can get all the pages that can be navigated from your homepage and create a complete sitemap of your active site.

On a related note how do you find out what version of IIS you are running on NT4? Does anyone remember?

It has been so long since I used NT4 and I often used the option pack that has IIS4 on it but I sure I have used IIS3 and maybe 2 as well.
