Windows Media Streaming - playback VERY choppy

I have a pretty large WMV file  - about 100MB at 1080i.    I don't seem to see a big difference in where it pauses if I just link to the file via http or if I use Windows Media services.  It will pause about every 10 seconds and rebuffer.   I have  a T3.   Any recommendations short of lowering the resolution?   I'm testing on right now when we have virtually no traffic on our network.    The server has just about everything I can find set for unlimited and cached.    The server has 24 GIGs of memory, a quad core 3 GHz processor and tons of fast storage.   Network, processor and memory utilization barely register when I playback a file.   My PC has a 5Mbit connection to the internet, a 3GHz core 2 processor, tons of free disk space and 2 GIGs of RAM and 512MB 8800 video card (no problem playing the file locally) - The most utilization I'm seeing is CPU at 24%., memory at 900MB and network  at 5%

Is your client PC connected to the internet or your local network?  Could you instead of playing back, try to do a "save as", and observe the download rate?

    Thanks for the help.

I do not how to set windows media services to allow me to enable save as within windows media player.   I would like to enable that feature when I send mms links.

I can't figure out the save as so I just use ftp to download a file - it is at 660 KB/s if that helps.

Lower resolution files play fine, but the 1080i ones are very choppy.

I think you probably do not have enough bandwidth to view the 1080i version smoothly.  Do you know the encoded bit rate of those?

The bandwidth required is higher than your actual 660KB/s=5280kbps.

Thanks - I get the same issue when I'm on the local network where I get much higher than 660.

Can you use task manager to check the incoming bandwidth when you play the file from remote server?
