    Accessing IIS over LAN

Hi, I have IIS 7.0 working fine on a Vista machine and can access it on this machine no problem, but I cannot access IIS from a machine within the same WorkGroup on the LAN, the PC in question runs XP pro. On the XP machine I am just typing in http://localhost/ to test and I get ‘Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage’ I have turned of ‘Show friendly HTTP error messages’. I have also turned off all firewalls. I am very new to all this and I am a bit overwhelmed! Is there anything special that I need to set to allow access over the network? Thanks for your help Julian

Hi you won't be able to access your machine by using localhost.  Localhost points to your local machines standard ip address of 127.0.0.1.  To access the webserver on your vista machine you will need to browse to the ip address or machine name of your vista machine.  i.e. http://192.168.0.1/    or http://vistamachinename/

     Hope this helps
