    Playlist and Vista

    Hello all, I recently installed Web PLaylist to my IIS 7 test machine to test its functionality before any live deployment and I am having a very strange issue.

     4 computers >> 2- IE 7/firefox3 on XP sp3, 1 IE7/firefox3 Vista sp1, and 1-  Safari OSx.5

     the current playlist is serving an mp3. both xp machines using IE7 & firefox 3 connect and play the file perfectly! However, the Vista machine with Firefox 3 works, but using IE7 returns 404 file not found when navigating using an html link, and a cannot find media error when imputting the url to media player. Safari grabs the file and just hangs, but that is easily fixable.

     any suggestions on the vista IE7 issue? i have been beating my brains to try to figure this one out. I killed the firewalls, i varied ports, i made html, php, and jscript pages to serve links to the files but still a no-go when using Vista.

    Could you paste the IIS log generated when you try it with them?

    Hi,

    Could you please do a small test? Open notepad, Click File-> open and type in the location to the playlist. See if you get an xml in the notepad.

    Re: Playlist and Vista

    all i get is an error stating "the above file name is invalid"

    i try to open \\servername\Home_audio\RStrial.isx

    infact, no matter what i try to open the file with, explorer, dreamweaver, notepad, wordpad, OOWriter, Word, nothing can open it remotely.

    now if i open the file directly using notepad on the server then yes i do get xml.

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <playlist name="RStrial" title="Led Zeppelin" description="Page & Plant">
      <entry location="C:\inetpub\wwwroot\audio\Led_Zeppelin_Dream_On.mp3" locationType="physicalPath" clientSkipFwd="true" clientSkipBack="true" clientSeek="true" />
    </playlist>

    This is really interesting. I was actually interested in seeing if remote was working. I am not sure if nothing else works how is Firefox working. Do you have some kind of network monitoring tool or could you share the IIS logs?

    i have gone through every one of the IIS logs and they are showing nothing more than than normal page requests. What i have done for testing is, create a playlist within a site, inside that side created an index.html file with a link to the playlist.

    all browsers pull up the index file without issue, however, when in vista, clicking the link starts windows media player with an instant error message of "File cannot be found" Winamp doesnt open the file either. However through windows xp media player and winamp open the file and play the song in the listing.

    Re: Playlist and Vista

    You should be able to use IIS failed request tracing to see what exact response (including headers) is being sent back for the playlist request.

    Re: Playlist and Vista

    Also, in addition to what Anil suggested could you share your index.html, playlist (I already have that) and playlist configuration from apphost.config and web.config.

     I will try a local repro. Vista + IE7 combination works and I use that for demos all the time.
