  IIS7, Windows 2008 and Indexing Service Reply Contact Hello, Back in the old days on IIS6/Windows 2003, I used to configure Indexing Service and use ixsso.Query object to search againt a specific catalog. I quite liked the functionality, and would like to reproduce it on Win2008/IIS7. However, Windows 2008 has two indexing options - FS-Search-Service and Indexing-Service. Unfortunately FS-Search-Server feature is not available on Windows 2008 Web Edition. As a result, I have to use Indexing-Service feature. It seems to be quite similar to the indexing service in W2003 (even the service name is still CISVC.EXE), but I cannot find a way to configure it. Indexing Options applet in the control panel is all greyed out and says "Indexing is not running". So I am sort of stuck there. Any ideas? Thank you, Anatoly.

Unfortunately, FS-Search-Service is not available for Windows 2008 Web edition, otherwise I would try that as well.

The old-style indexing service is not manageable through the Indexing applet. It is manageable through Computer Managemnet applet (compmgmt.msc), or ciadv.msc (not in Control Panel applets any more, but you still can find it if you know what to look for). Could not think of it myself, had to ask MS guys about it.

  Re: IIS7, Windows 2008 and Indexing Service Reply Contact I used mmc and add-remove snap-in. Looked for Indexing service to configure it. I manage to create a catalog and directories. But my asp app cannot load the IIS virtual path. It loads the physical path ok. So I discovered tracking setting www server and selected the iis website i created in the drop down list. Then click ok to save the setting. Opened the properties dialog box again and found the www server setting blank. The only setting it accepts is [None]. Did you come across the same problem. By the way, i am using 64bit Windows server 2008. I tested the 32bit 2008 server and got the same result. Any ideas? Thanks. Faizal

  Re: IIS7, Windows 2008 and Indexing Service Reply Contact We are experiencing a similar problem with IIS 7 + Windows 2008 + Indexing Service.  We currently use Ektron CMSv400 version 7.5 which uses the Indexing Service for searching content.  Talking with Ektron support they have mentioned that it is a Microsoft issue and not a programming issue;  Windows 2008 Indexing has changed substantially from 2003, breaking the indexing.   I have also experienced the exact same problem as Faizal:  I associate a catalog with a website but it never seems to stick.  I have followed all of their recommendations, including the administrator manual, online documentation, and forum posts that amounted to a lot of registry editing but no results.  We might be forced to wait on Microsoft to fix these issues.
