IIS newbie: unable to LOGin to Website

After setting up IIS on XP Pro (it all works just fine) I then try in IE7 http://Localhost and I get a box asking for a User and password, although the checkbox "Allow anonymous login" is checked in IISAdmin. I have tried my XP user and pasword (blank) but still cant login.

Make sure the anonymous and ASPNET user have access to the c:\inetpub\wwwroot path.  I'm assuming that is the path to your web files.

    Hi,

In IIS MMC, on the default website>properties>Directory Security>1st Edit ..Do you have anonymous and Integrated windows authentication box checked?

Please check both and then try accessing the website.

If that does not help, then download process monitor and then repro the issue and check for "Access Denied" errors and fix those permissions if any.

    HTH.

Re: IIS newbie: unable to LOGin to Website

OK here goes: this message is from the System Error Log:

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation
permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {0C0A3666-30C9-11D0-8F20
-00805F2CD064}  to the user <mycomputerName>\IWAM_<mycomputerName> SID
    (S-1-5-21-1149945337-3613276661-2828900630-1016).  This security permission
can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.
The above is in the log: System Event 10016 (DCOM) This all looks very fierce and I have no idea what to do to fix it!

The next one is that issued by IE7 after I try to logon.

"You are not authorized to view this page"  After LOGON: panel from IE7

    IISAdmin: Authentication Methods Tab

    Anonymous access "Checked"
Allow IIS to control password "Checked"
    Integrated Windows authentication "Checked"

    ASP.NET Tab

    Virtual Path: Default Web Site
    File location: c:\inetpub\web.config

    Home Directory Tab
    Local Path: c:\inetpub\wwwroot

I had not read your note before typing this reply so I will check your suggestions and get back to you, but I think I have both boxes checked. I have Process Monitor so will run that up. Thanks again.
