Query reagrding Web Application Stress Tool

    Hello,

I am working on Microsoft Web Application Stress Tool version 1.1.293.1 and i am able to generate reports of the result by using sample scripts, but Perf Counters section in my tool is not showing any counter and hcounters.csv is also missing. I also want to know, how to use this tool in web farm environment? May be some links which would give good information regarding it.

    Anticipating your reply.

    Thanks

What OS are you running on this.  I've never gotten the perf counters to work on WAST.  I'd recommend you look at using WCAT 6.3.

    Thanks for your reply.

Check out this link http://www.bridgeport.edu/sed/projects/cs597/Fall_2002/jishah/web_application_stress.htm , they have used perf counters which i am not able to get.

I am working on windows-xp and could you please tell me how to integrate web farm with WAST.

What is the difference between these two tools.Do they perform same funcionality or different?

What would be the test scenarios for WAST?

It looks like they are running on Windows 2000

I'm not certain you have to do anything to integrate webfarm into WAST.  You just need to setup your site on the webfarm and point WAST or whatever tool you use to the VIP (virtual IP).   The VIP would be on a load-balancer or using NLB.

They are different.  WCAT is the newer stress level tool provided for free.  the performance team at Microsoft uses this for stress testing.

What would be the test scenarios for WAST?

If this is a existing web application, you can reply log files.  I would also try the most common scenarios.  Stress test them 10, 100 times the normal load.  If this is a existing web application, you can use performance counters such as Web Service / Concurrent Connections and Requests / Per sec to get some baseline numbers.  These numbers can help calculate which numbers to use in WAST or WCAT.

Is there WCAT similar to Web Application Stress Tool 1.1 with similar user interface?

    Thanks,

    Dev

Not that I know of.  I sure wish there was a low tech load tester tool like WAST available with an updated UI.    I've asked for this or put a UI around WCAT.  It's not intuitive and hard to get going.   I'm not sure it falls into the IIS teams realm, but one can hope cause the modules they are doing rocks!

Please KEEP bugging the IIS team or someone!!!! A UI for WCAT is very much needed!!!! WAST was so easy to use and WCAT is not making any sense to me.

Re: Query reagrding Web Application Stress Tool

    Hi,

I found out recently a solution for the WAST issues (on XP and probably Vista/W2003/W2008):

    1. You must copy pdh.dll in the WAST directory to use performance counters

    2. You must set appropriate DCOM permissions to use remote clients

I described all on my blog:
