    WebDav and Visual Studio

Can i setup the new WebDav publishing in IIS7 and use Visual Studio to create new web sites?  I want to get away from using FPSE.

Good question.  For the VS forums at www.asp.net.  Same login as here.  There's no reason it can't use WebDav, but it's not a direct replacement for FPSE either.

    Re: WebDav and Visual Studio

Currently Visual Studio does not have built-in WebDAV support, and by that I mean that you cannot open a web site in Visual Studio using an HTTP URL like you can with with FPSE.

But that being said, I use both Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio 2008 with WebDAV web sites by mapping a drive in Windows to the WebDAV site and then using Visual Studio to open a web site using the File System.

Mapping a WebDAV Drive in Windows:

    Map WebDAV Drive

Opening a WebDAV Drive in Visual Studio:

Visual Studio Open Dialog - WebDAV

    Re: WebDav and Visual Studio

    Hi

I have tried to map a network drive against a site in my local IIS say its http://localhost/somedirectory

But no matter how I try it gives the error of "Network path not cound". I have tried with different security configurations.

I am able to create a network place for this site.

I'll be greatful for any help.

    Regards,

    Haris

    Hi Haris,

I've written two walkthroughs that should be able to help:

Installing and Configuring WebDAV on IIS 7.0
    http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/350/installing-and-configuring-webdav-on-iis-70/

    Using the WebDAV Redirector
    http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/386/using-the-webdav-redirector/

Each of these walkthroughs have various troubleshooting tips that should help resolve the problem.
