    Charting with LogParser and OWC

    Hi all,

I know that LogParser uses the MS Office Web Component (OWC) to create chart images. Does anybody know which version is it using exactly? Or does it vary on different computers, depends on version installed? If it does, it may be interesting for LP to have different charting capability on different computers.

Besides, I found a list of available chart types for excel 2003 from here, are they equivalent to those available in OWC? If they are, can they be used in LP too? I noticed that the list contains some extra ones compared to that returned by the -h -o:CHART switch of LP. This seems to require more knowledge in the internal design of LP, maybe only the author knows the answer, but I would really appreciate anyone who can tell me more about it.

    Thanks,

AFAIK, It depends the installed OWC version on the computer. so if you don't see it in the -o charttype, doubt you can use it. OWC is not supported in office 2k7. only 2k, 2k3, and xp edition.   And the author of LP no longer with Microsoft, yet we still hope MS will continue to pick up and improve the tool.

Thanks for your reply. I have heard about the left of the author from MS, like most of you, I think it worths for MS to find someone to pick on the tool due to its high reputation.

Back to the question, Having a string analysis on the executable I found the type name there, so I doubt whether the -o charttype help message reflects the real status for the currently installed OWC. Not sure whether there exists so called 'hacks' or 'tweaks' that allow LP to generate other chart type with OWC. Just my crazy thought... :p

Mm.. have you try the chart type listed in OWC but not via LP -o charttype output? works?  LP uses the com object comes with OWC, so without it doubt you can do so.
