    FTP and UNC Path

I have an FTP site setup in IIS 6.0 using a UNC path that works just fine.

I tried setting up an FTP site in IIS 7.0 using the same UNC path and I can't log on. Files are viewable under the FTP directory in IIS, but I'm getting errors when trying to connect with an FTP client. I'm using the same domain account to connect on both the IIS 6 and IIS 7 machine.

I have several FTP sites set up on the server with local paths and no problems connecting. Is there something (permissions) that need to be added to the server with the UNC share?

    Thanks,

    John

    Re: FTP and UNC Path

We didn't change much in the FTP Server that comes in IIS7 because we are about to ship a brand new version out-of-band, i.e. not in Windows Server 2008. Whatever worked in IIS6 should still work.

Can you turn on logon auditing and figure out if FTP tries to connect, who is trying to connect and why it fails?

A quick update. No matter what I tried, I couldn't get the FTP site to connect to the UNC path, so I decided to change the site to a local path--got the same error. Out of frustration, I decided to just delete the FTP site and start over. This time I first set up the site with a local path, confirmed I could logon, then changed the path to the UNC path--everything is now working fine.

Maybe this was just some fluke, but things are working fine for the site now.

    Thanks,

    John

    Hi John,

Glad you got it working. What FTP service were you using?  The one built into the OS or the 7.0 version posted on iis.net?
