    Issues with the IIS.Net forums

    Hi All,

I wanted to summarize the issues people have been seeing in the forums.iis.net site and let you know where we stand on fixing these issues.

    • Logparser forum sorting order: This was an issue with the date field that was set too far in the future on the import. The data was corrected a couple of weeks ago and now updated or new threads are sorted correctly to the top of the forums.
    • Blank Posts: There is an issue with users posting from IE6 (Pre SP2 XP or Win 2k server) where their posts are showing up as blank.  This issue is on our developers machine and scheduled to be deployed on or before 10/23/07 to the site.
    • Searching Within Forums: Searching within specific forums from the advanced search UI is currently not working correctly. This is also scheduled for a deployment on or before 10/23.

If there are other issues you are experiencing with the forums please leave your feedback below and I will be capturing these issues and letting you know the triage results.  I'm sorry for the delay in getting to these issues, but our developer time has been spent fixing other high priority issues with the site so that we can have a better article posting/reading experience, downloads for IIS7, etc.  It's not much of an excuse for having these issues linger, but be aware that we have been doing regular updates to the site over the last month and 10/23 is our next scheduled update for forum fixes.

    Thanks,
Josh Ledgard - Director - Telligent

    Hi Josh,

I think you got all cover, the other one I can think of is the top poster section that used to be there. And one minor issue is with the 'unread posts', though I forget how to repro it. say once you read all, then you visit other section, then go back to unread posts - it shows you that you have XXX posts not read but the fact is that you have read all. if you close the browser and connect again - it shows you 'no unread posts'. not sure why.

I've added the feature request to our database for adding the top posters modules here ala the Forums.asp.net site.  Regarding the second issue. Could you clarify. Here is what I did that seemed to work.

     1. Visit a Forum.

    2. Read a few threads

    3. Back to the forum view - Noted that they show up with the read indicator next to them.

    4. Click Unread posts and select that forum from the drop down.

Results: The posts are read are not listed. This seems to work as expected. Am I missing something?

Well, you have to read all - make sure no more unread posts. then visit blog or anything - read one of those, then click unread posts, it will shows you 19x unread posts.

another issue - if you go to moderation - there's one pending post but when you try to go in / moderate, it tells you good news "nothing to moderate".
