    Installing php

I've had slight problems installing php, and I'd like to know what I've done wrong.

I installed via the msi Installer, and chose to set it up for ISAPI, then I added *.php into the Handler mapping, and yeah? I guess I'm short of what I missed, because I was under the impression it was pretty much automated..../ I've also tried adding a handler mapping for using php via fastcgi, the same way it was described in a one of the articles on this site.

when I try to view a php file on the server I'm working with it's showing the download/open prompt...asking what I'd like to use to view the php file

or in IE, it's just taking a looong time and going to the IIS7 Error page (500 Internal Server Error -

The FastCGI process exceeded configured activity timeout)

any help will be much appreciated.

    Re: Installing php

Okay, so I made a note to myself literally on how I correctly installed php to work with IIS7 with WS2008 beta 3...I've now upgraded to Window Server 2008 RC0...and I did the same things...it doesn't work....same problem as initially stated:

What I have done includes the following: Install php (win installer provided by php.net), installed it with the IIS ISAPI Module, GD Library, MySQL, MySQLi Extensions, etc, added a copy of php.ini into C:\Windows, Added C:\PHP into PATH, and finally added the php5isapi.dll into IIS as a handler mapping, thus going into the isapi/cgi restrictions, file extensions etc.

    Re: Installing php

Changed the Handler mapping to run as a FastCGi Module it worked fine

    FOR 5 MINUTES!!@?!?@

    I then got this error:

    Internet Information Services 7.0

    Error Summary

HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error

C:\PHP\php-cgi.exe - The FastCGI process exited unexpectedly

    Detailed Error Information
    ModuleFastCgiModule
    NotificationExecuteRequestHandler
    HandlerPHP
    Error Code0xc0000135
    Requested URLhttp://localhost:80/phpmyadmin/main.php
    Physical PathD:\SPG\Tensioncore\phpmyadmin\main.php
    Logon MethodAnonymous
    Logon UserAnonymous
    Most likely causes:
    • IIS received the request; however, an internal error occurred during the processing of the request. The root cause of this error depends on which module handles the request and what was happening in the worker process when this error occurred.
    • IIS was not able to access the web.config file for the Web site or application. This can occur if the NTFS permissions are set incorrectly.
    • IIS was not able to process configuration for the Web site or application.
    • The authenticated user does not have permission to use this DLL.
    • The request is mapped to a managed handler but the .NET Extensibility Feature is not installed.
    Things you can try:
    • Ensure that the NTFS permissions for the web.config file are correct and allow access to the Web server's machine account.
    • Check the event logs to see if any additional information was logged.
    • Verify the permissions for the DLL.
    • Install the .NET Extensibility feature if the request is mapped to a managed handler.
    • Create a tracing rule to track failed requests for this HTTP status code. For more information about creating a tracing rule for failed requests, click here.
Links and More Information This error means that there was a problem while processing the request. The request was received by the Web server, but during processing a fatal error occurred, causing the 500 error.

    Re: Installing php

     I'm good.

okay, so it's very true that installing php as an ISAPI Module is far superior in the terms of system usage, but I've installed successfully the use of php Via FastCGI, and it works quite well I might add, the only downside to which I am unsure about is php can't find the php_mysql.dll which is IN the same directory as well as in the \ext folder...which I might also add that C:\PHP is in PATH....but I'll figure it out...I seem to have found the problem with ISAPI...I'm sure it's a bug that needs fixing (compatibility with IIS7 RC0 - meaning the ISAPI dll included with the latest php release).

    I've fixed my own problem

    and wait

I don't think anyone has even read this thread haha

    Hi Nick,

I got your private message.  I'm just getting around to replying.   Regarding running PHP as an ISAPI module.  I don't have enough experience with PHP under load to say either way.  I would try using FastCGI, but it sounds like you have a solution.  Thanks for posting your solution.  Great job!
