    Internet printing

How do I enable Internet printing in IIS 7.0?  I enabled IIS web serving and checked internet printing under Windows features for IIS, but get nothing when navigating to [server]/printers.  I don't see it in the IIS management console.  (I'm using Vista Ultimate, and have the IIS 7.0 that comes with it.)  I also don't see it mentioned in the help files anywhere.

Any instructions would be helpful.  I just need to be able to print from any remote computer over the Internet to my printer.

    Thanks.

    Re: Internet printing

    Hi Manuel,

The "Printing Services\Internet Printing Client" component available on Vista is intended for accessing internet printing services from a server machine.  The Vista machine is a client SKU and does not support the internet printing server application.

You need to use Windows Server 2008 to be able to install the Internet Printing server components (you can download WS2008 beta3 to try it).

    Thanks,

Thanks for clarifying that, though that's too bad--I really need the full IPP support in Vista, not just the client side.

I got the June CTP, only found the print client but not print server component.

    Re: Internet printing

It should be there.  It wont be under the IIS web server role, instead you have to install the Print Server role.  Let me know if you cant find it.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Cool - it is add role not add feature :)
Server Manager - Add Role - Print Service, select Internet Printing.

Is it possible to add this Internet Printing feature from a MS server 2008 install disc into Windows Vista's version of IIS7?  Because Hamachi isn't that reliable, I love being able to print to the printer in my dorm room from anywhere on campus, such as the library, where I have my laptop.  This was so easy to set up in IIS in Windows XP...shame.

Vista has internet printing client but not IPP for hosting it.

It just doesn't sound like a valid answer to say that you have to install a server OS on your workstation computer in order to print across the internet.  This was a function of Windows XP, that i'm sure would have been utilized more had more people known about it.  Why take away functionality in a new product?  It would be wonderful if you could provide the add-on that is in IIS 7.0 for Windows Server 2008 for those of us using Vista.

    any help?
