IIS Installation for Window XP Home Edition

I am not even a beginner of IIS.  I was about to install IIS to study building dynamic website.
Can anyone tell me that if I can just download Internet Information Services 6 from Microsoft?
My computer is Window XP Home edition not Professional.
I did download IIS6 to my computer and it's in the Administrative tools but when I click the IIS6, it's empty.
I did download the Microsoft Net Framework2 as well.
When I read a book, It's said I should go to Add and Remove Window Component and click Application server, IIS Manager, Details and so on to install the IIS.
But I cannot find Application server or IIS in my Window Component list.
If anyone can help me of my absolute beginner's question, I will be so grateful.
I need to set up everything first to start studying the dynamic website.
    Thanking you in advance.

Re: IIS Installation for Window XP Home Edition

You must have Windows XP Professional to run IIS.  It does not come with XP Home.  You can not download IIS, it only comes on the operating system install disk.  It sounds like you installed the IIS 6 admin tool for XP, which can be used to manage remote IIS 6 servers.

If you want to study building dynamic web sites, get yourself a copy of Visual Web Developer Express (it's free) http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/vwd/ which includes a development web server that will run on XP Home (it's only for testing and debugging your code though).

If you still want IIS, you'll need to upgrade to XP Pro, Windows Server 2003, or a version of Vista that includes IIS.

    Hi! Tom,

Thank you very much for your advice and information.
In the last few days I gave myself a terrible headache to  solve this problem.
Now I know exactly why it does not work.
    I am very much appreciated.
I hope now I can start to study building dynamic website.
    Thank you again.

    Kind regards,

    Chiaki
