In the premier Microsoft Journal for Developers, MSDN Magazine, IIS Program Manager Mike Volodarsky unveils why IIS7 is so important for developers. In the IIS7 First Look! column, Mike explores the Web Server for Windows Vista and Beyond.
His article focuses attention on IIS7's modularity, simplified deployment and configuration capabilities, the native and managed code extensibility, and lastly on security, performance, and compatibility. Very prevalent on the minds of everyone, Mike answers the common question "why should you start thinking about IIS, a server application, before the next version of Windows Server, code-named "Longhorn", is even near release?"
"It's important to start thinking about it now because Windows Vista ships with the same full-featured IIS 7.0 bits that are expected to be released with Windows Server "Longhorn," he says. "This means you can immediately take advantage of IIS 7.0 ... and get a head-start in developing and testing your production Web applications."
