Thanks again for the help.
I sent you two logs: __iis6_install.log is the one that gets created when I install, __iis6_uninstall.log is the one that gets created when I uninstall.
I have Norton Internet Security installed however disabling it has no effect on the problem -- that's one of the first things I tried.
What I mean by installation does not complete is this...
I run the installer. Installer gets thru the "Examining Installed Files" and "Copying Files" phases and the progress bar gets up to about 80% done. Then the Installer Status line changes to say "Installing IIS", the disk grinds away for about 1-2 minutes more then the disk activity becomes very intermittent. It ticks an ocassional disk access every now and then (maybe every 30 sec.-2 min). Eventually it stops completely (after about 6 min.more) and the progress bar goes no further. The mouse cursor occasionally flips between Pointer Cursor and Busy Cursor until the disk activity totally ceases. It takes maybe 10 minutes or so to get this far. Then it just sits there like that for 4 hours (that's the longest I've ever waited for it). No disk activity at all, the mouse cursor stays on Default Cursor, and the progress bar goes nowhere. There is no error message that appears it just sits there hung like that (presumably forever). I have been giving it about 20 minutes or so to proceed or make some disk activity happen and then I end the task since it isn't doing anything more (the cancel button in the Installer is greyed out, disabled, at the point this hang occurs so I must use Task Manager to end it).
I tried installing it in safe mode once but some of the required services won't start in safe mode so that didn't work because I got a bunch of errors about services not being able to start in safe mode or not already running. But the install process did fully complete in safe mode. Afterwards, when I rebooted in normal mode, I went to go configure IIS in the MyComputer-Manage-Services interface but the IIS Admin screen would not appear (again a hang with Busy Cursor and I had to kill the process). Plus most of my startup programs from the taskbar tray like NVidia control panel, keyboard config, sound config, power management, quick time tray, etc. would not appear on reboot until I uninstalled IIS.
Distributed Transaction Coordinator Service shows "Started" and "Manual".
The install logs I just sent you were made using the same procedure I described in my last post except I first found C:\Windows\System32\msxml3.dll right-clicked it, chose unregister, it succeeded, then right-click it again and chose register, it succeeded. Then I went for the install-hang-uninstall and came up with those logs. Both Norton and WinXP firewalls were disabled when I did this. I have no other software running at the time either. I let it sit at the "hang spot" for 1 hour this time when creating those logs.
